TAUNTON – Ahead of the November 5, 2019 election, Senator Ed Markey has announced his endorsement of City Councilor Estele Borges for mayor of Taunton.
“It is my great privilege to endorse Estele Borges for mayor of Taunton,” said Senator Markey. “As the only mayoral candidate with municipal experience, Estele will be ready to lead on day one. She has a proven history of effective leadership and of representing some of the most vulnerable members of her community; including seniors and veterans. Her fierce determination to make real, concrete improvements for Taunton is exactly what this city needs and I could not be prouder to endorse such a strong and capable candidate.”
“I am grateful to Senator Markey for his endorsement,” said Borges. “Senator Markey understands what it takes to make a difference at every level of government. He knows that change begins locally and that taking action and starting a dialogue is the catalyst that leads to a better future.”
Estele Borges has served as a Taunton City Councilor since 2014. She previously served for two years on the Zoning Board of Appeals. On the City Council, Estele serves as the Chair of the Ordinance Enrolled Bills Committee, and on the Solid Waste Committee. As a Councilor, she supported the hiring of new police and firefighters, and has long supported much-needed improvements to Taunton’s public safety building.
Outside of her municipal role, Estele is the co-chair of the Community Crisis Intervention Team, which works to train community members on how to best address issues of addiction and substance misuse. Estele is a small business owner in Taunton, working as a real-estate broker. She is deeply committed to investing in small business to help improve Taunton’s economy, and has previous experience assisting local business through her role establishing the District Center for the Arts.
Estele lives in Taunton with her two children, both students at Taunton High School.
